Our body needs detoxification because build-up of toxins not only destroys our immune system but practically weakens any organ in the body. Some causes of this phenomenon are taking medications and accumulation of free radicals that destroy cells or cause their aging. In the emotional or spiritual aspect, considered toxins are negative ethers, spirits, and emotions. All of these substances stress out the body causing changes in its physiologic functions.

In addition, toxins produce immediate manifestations of symptoms like headaches, allergies, and body pains. These imbalances disrupt not just the normal functioning of the body but also affect the mind and soul. Detox, the process of getting rid of toxins in the body, can help purify the body from such health problem. Detoxification methods can occur in different levels:

Physical
Cleansing the body includes removing the cause of illnesses, congestion, and the actual diseases of the body. Examples of physical detox methods are detox diet, fasting, and taking herbal capsules that remove toxins. One benefit of such methods is restoring balance of energy in the body, giving a feeling of rejuvenation. In addition, it prevents further degeneration of cells.

Mental
Detox can take the form of purification of the mind from negative emotions to improve outlook in life as well as general well-being. Once you have relieved physical stress, this relief can also alleviate mental problems. Mental detox methods can involve physical exercise that helps balance the body’s energy affecting the thought process. You learn to express emotions especially those that are hidden like frustrations, anger, and fear. These are replaced by feelings of love, forgiveness, hope, and joy.

Spiritual
Detox in this highest level enhances the outlook of a person about his or her purpose in life. It changes views about life to make one feel better. This is called short or light detox. A longer detox involves making a deeper commitment to making lifestyle changes. Spiritual detoxification can be achieved through contemplation and prayer.

There are other detox methods that affect all levels. This is possible because of the interconnection among the 3 levels. Once you have physically removed toxins that cause illnesses, the mind level is affected because the body feels rejuvenated. Then, the spiritual level improves due to changes the person will do to maintain the positive effects of detoxification.

Examples of these simple body cleansing methods are fasting, drinking extra water, and eating fresh fruits and vegetables that contain fiber to help eliminate toxins. The most common body purifying method that effectively eliminates toxins is a simple detox diet.

Don’t over-detoxify because of the possible loss of essential nutrients, which may result from a negative balance. The key to living life to the fullest is balance. You must learn to do this to rejuvenate your body, mind, and spirit.
